Day 3 and our last day in Newcastle before we depart for adventures East..... Sleep was plentiful last night and the hostel was nice and quite (unlike the night before!!!!)....
We were heading off to Hunter Valley today..... Weather has been good (check out the blue sky in the pics below)...
We got picked up at 9am outside the hostel by our tour guide Tex.... It was a right little United Nations tour (2 Brits, 1 German, 3 Swedes and a couple of mental Canadians!!!).... Tex (no idea if that was his real name!!!) was a complete nutter!!!
It took us about an hour to drive to the Hunter Valley... It was blowing a force 9 gale outside so was very windy....
The Hunter Valley has about 150 Vineyards in it so is massive.... First stop we went to a Vineyard called Drayton's which is apparently one of the oldes in the Hunter Valley (though most of them were that!!!).... Several wine tastings (whites, reds and Liqeurs!!!!) we were ready to move on to Vineyard 2 and it was only 11am!!!!! hehehehehehehehehehehe
Vineyard 2 bought the same drill really.. though she seemed to rush us through the wines really quickly!!!! Not good if you're drinking on an empty stomach... Here we tried cheeses as well... 8 in all.. at least 2 of them smelt like a pair of Lee's socks and Lucy drew the line at Blue Cheese.. Lee tries a little bit and then decided the mould on it was just wrong!!!! ONTO VINEYARD NUMBER 3....
This was a very small family owned one and several tastings later we were ready for lunch..... We went to a place called Oscars.. Lee had a burger called the works and it was.... Beef, Pineapple, salad, cheese, bacon, beetroot... you name it, it was in it!!!! Lucy had Chicken and Chips....
We then had a look around the Chocolate Fudge shop and British Lolly Shop..... Lunch over we headed to a deli type place where we could taste olives, chutneys, sauces, relishes, e.t.c. true to form Lee sampled the Garlic Olives and a sauce called "RING OF FIRE".. I kid you not.... and without going into too much detail his mouth was on fire and Lucy was keeping her distance from smelly breath!!!!
Before the final 2 vineyards a bit of banter broke out between Tex and the 2 Canadians over which country had the strongest beers.. It turns out Canada won though one of the Swedish blokes chipped in with some good wisdom about American beers...
"American Beers and making love in a canoe are both very similar... Fucking close to water!!!!"
Vineyard number 4 brought much the same as the others... 7 wines to taste.. wish we could tell the difference between them all but we couldn't...
The last vineyard was more of a liquer tasting session.... Strawberry, rasperry, butterscotch and the tasting finished with the group each downing a small shot of chilli liqeur all together on the count of 3... safe to say it left a bit of an afterburn....
Hunter Valley over we headed back to the hostel (with Lee sleeping most of the way!!!)... we leave at 9.30am tomorrow for a 4 hour trip to Port Macquarie.... Looking forward to moving on....
lots of love
lucy and lee

Weather looks like its been nice for you. Here, its London Marathon, so boring day for all us townies as roads closed off most of the day . Katie Price and Peter Andre were running this year, not sure if they made it to the end? Has been warm and sunny day here, with cool breeze. Love ya lots, hugs and kisses, Mum, Dad, Tom and Chris xxxx
