Buonjourno,
So we are here in Rome... We have been here since yesterday (Friday).. So back to Thursday and we had a full day out in Florence.. We left the hotel about 8.30am and drove the 20km into Florence.. We stopped off on the way to get a few pictures at a good lookout (couple of real funny ones will post them up when we get the chance)..
Then we met our local tour guide and had an hour and a half tour of some of the local sites with commentary.. We had some lunch and then the afternoon was free for us to do whatever we wanted.. We hooked up with Jenna and Holly from the group and went to the Uffizi gallery (where there are some famous paintings by Leaonard, Michaelangelo etc)..
We had a bit of a result on entry fee.. It was supposed to cost 15 euros.. but we met someone in the queue from a tour group who had some spare tickets so we got in for 5 euros and jumped the queue as well... sweet...
After that we went to the Duomo (cathedral and had a look around).. Then we got some beers and just sat around on the church steps for an hour or so until the tour guide turned up... In the evening we had a group meal and then we went back to the hotel.. As it was our last night together as one big group we went and bought some wine and crashed the hotel lobby drinking and chatting..
The next morning we set off for Rome early.. we stopped for lunch at a town called Ovieto and had some lunch.. after that we had to swap coaches and get on another one with a new group (shame cos everyone had really bonded).. We got into Rome about 3.30pm and did the only sensible thing we could do, a few of us went to the local supernarket, got some beers and sat around in reception... Last night we went for a group meal at a local restaurant and had a drink back at the hotel bar before crashing...
This morning we were up quite early and left at 8.30am to get the Metro to the Collesieum.. We met our guide for a walking tour of the local monuments (pics to follow).. we then had some lunch and in the afternoon we went to the Vatican museum, bloody mental, we went to the Sistine Chapel, so many people..
We had a bit of a siesta this afternoon at the hotel and this evening we have been out for dinner at the same restaurant as last night (really good food and it is not that expensive).. we have one more day here (Sunday), nothing much planned just gonna mill about and do some shopping and then Monday we are off early (7.30am) to Venice... Crikey!!!!!
Lots of Love
Lee and Lucy xx
